From Our President
Welcome!
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland is committed to nurturing the growth of healthy communities and acting as an advocate on behalf of those most in need. The Foundation was established in 1996, yet it also represents the 32-year-old legacy of Cleveland’s historic Saint Ann Foundation. Our work takes us “behind the numbers” to reveal the real-life challenges facing the many women, men and youths living in poverty in our neighborhoods and nationwide.
We know that “the poor” rarely fit perceptions that are fueled by media stereotypes. A majority of the people struggling to meet their most basic needs have jobs, often more than one. But for those with little education, limited access to a car and no health insurance, the new millennium is not an easy time.
Our Foundation attempts to address the challenges faced by people in need through specific focus areas that we believe are at the root of generational poverty. We seek to proactively address these issues through grantmaking and other activities that center on evidence-based, best-practice programs. We measure the results of these efforts to achieve greater successes.
We also aim to improve the lives of the residents of Cleveland’s Central Neighborhood where disparities in health and education are among the city’s highest. Our work continues the healing ministry of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine and embraces the values of Jesus Christ.
Explore the website to learn our Foundation’s history, achievements and current focus and goals. We hope you will contact us to share knowledge, opinions or suggestions about improving lives and communities.
With all best wishes,
Susanna H. Krey
President
